It is offered here to serve as INSPIRATION ONLY into the kind of personal healing we are ALL able to access within ourselves and is to be used at the READER'S OWN DISCRETION! Seek the help of qualified professionals when you need them (Holistic or otherwise) because we don't HAVE to do this alone and the more support we can receive the better! Everything mentioned here is compatible right along with complementary, holistic, and allopathic treatment as well. The method: I want to share with you now the insight into HOW this type of healing takes place so you can apply it more fully to your own life and any health challenges you might be facing! I feel this is something we can ALL accomplish if we are able to expand our thinking to include the possibilities of such methods! This is my attempt to help you do so for yourself! My understanding of healing in this manner began in 2000 when I began to explore and then to practice (and eventually teach) both complementary and holistic health. The body, mind, spirit connection is one that is so often overlooked in the face of Western medicine. Sure, it is a popular trending topic right now but the true strength of what that connection is capable of has been watered down and lost in popular culture. What it really implies is that our current state of health is a REFLECTION of our INNER state of either peacefulness or turmoil. It is all related to consciousness and energy and we are ALL made up of energy! There is an understanding in energy healing (and in science, actually) that states that energy goes into the places where focus or observation is placed. This is true in our BODIES as well! Since there is a correlation between our physical health and our thoughts and emotions, it makes sense that what we focus on will be reflected in our bodies for good or ill. For an example, in the case of my back issue, my focus had become far too much about financial worry. Money worries make me feel weak and like I cannot support myself or my family - hence the weakness in my back and the inability to fully support my body properly! One serves as a reflection of the other! A reverse example would be when you receive some really great news and have something great to look forward to and the cold you had begun to get disappears immediately! It seems like MAGIC and in a way it is! Our consciousness works with our energy to constantly create and recreate our state of health with every thought! Luckily, everyone is able to harness this awareness and improve their health if they are open to doing so! When it comes to doing this type of work with ourselves, something else to keep in mind is that since what we focus on gets stronger, the more we focus on FIXING or CURING something in our bodies (or our lives, for that matter), the STRONGER we make it! This is where I accidentally got myself stuck when I was trying to improve my back - I was spending so much time, effort, and energy on letting go of what was affecting it and trying to narrow down the thoughts that were behind it, that I was inadvertently ADDING MORE energy to it & making it worse! In effect, I was PREVENTING it from being able to heal itself! I have been doing this work forever & I STILL got hung up on this, so don't feel bad or be discouraged if it takes a bit for you to get a fix on this kind of understanding! What changed when I decided to return to the affirmations as opposed to trying to fix my back was that I began to put my focus and energy on myself being healthy and feeling good (feeling prosperous, in this case) through the positive emotions of the affirmations. When I did that, the energy was freed up to facilitate the healing I required (and helped to alleviate my money worry too which ALWAYS feels good)! So if you find yourself being stuck with a health issue that doesn't seem to want to improve and you want to apply some of the mind-body-spirit-energy connection to your situation and you don't know where to begin, start by asking yourself: A) What circumstances in your life have been attracting your attention the most lately?; B) What thoughts are you most focused on right now in your life?; and C) What are you worrying about right now in your life?. When you ask these questions, you can begin to formulate an affirmation or a thought that will counter the energy that is connected to the issue within the body. For example: feeling lonely or abandoned would become feeling included and nurtured; feeling unworthy would become worthy; feeling sad would become feeling joyous; etc. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, you can apply it in every situation regarding your health and your life! Well, there you have it! I hope that this has given you a little bit of food for thought when it comes to how much power and control you have over your own state of health and your body! May my story spark a fire within your thinking that leads you closer to the well-being that you both deserve and are capable of achieving! Thank you for reading and all's well that bends well! Ahahaha! I couldn't resist! Peace, love, light, and joy! Melinda Erin Whitehead! April 2014.

Everything mentioned here is compatible right along with complementary, holistic, and allopathic treatment as well. The story: The first time I had an issue with a herniated disc in my lower back and into my sciatic was when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter over 20 years ago. It was not a nice experience but it was minor. Over the years I experienced it a handful of times but it was short in duration and nothing very extreme until a few years ago, after my husband's mother died. I was down and out HARD for a good six weeks. I could not stand, walk or lay down. I slept in a chair. I ate in the chair. I sat in the chair. I LIVED in the chair! It was excruciating, but the whole time, I never felt like I was in a bad place or was "suffering" in any manner, even though I was in tremendous pain physically. I knew that that experience too, like all of the experiences in our lives, would pass. I live a holistic lifestyle so my treatment regimen included all manner of holistic approaches including herbs, energy work, body work, homeopathy, self-work, yoga, exercises, etc. Nothing seemed to work fast enough for me because it impeded my life so greatly, but I attempted to remain patient, and in time, it improved and I returned to my routines. I must admit that like every circumstance we endure, I learned a lot about myself during this time and I was extremely grateful for that! It never FULLY healed after that though, and I carried it forward with me. I ignored it as it nagged and ached everyday and flared up here and there until it began to build and progressively get worse again over time. Eventually, a couple of months ago, the pain began to crowd out the rest of my day and become my main focus. It hurt. It had gotten bad like that time a few years ago - only then it was my lower back only and this time it had added the sciatic of my whole right leg to the mix. I did a lot of lamaze-type breathing and even more groaning and crying!!! I once again began my regimen of natural approaches and was recieving treatment from multiple qualified practitioners, but I was seeing no improvement this time. Not even a slow one. Yesterday I had squatted down in a store to check out something on a bottom shelf and almost had a panic attack for a moment because I did not think I would be able to get up, but I did. I didn't feel good. I hadn't felt good in awhile. I wasn't sleeping and I just hurt. A lot. I began to feel really discouraged this time. I was having a much harder time reminding myself that "this too would pass" this time, even though I knew better. Last night I was preparing to go to bed and I was stalling because the very thought of the pain and insomnia that accompanied going to bed was extremely distressing to me. I had tried sleeping with my back on a pillow and the pillow had made me slide out of the bed so I felt I had nothing left to try . . . or DID I? I decided to go back to basics and address my pain and issues through the use of affirmations. This is nothing new for me and I have cured myself of countless ailments from asthma (both acutely and chronically), to women's issues, to colds, bruises, fevers, bone infections, and many things in between so my BELIEF in the efficacy of this type of method (I have both lived and practised holistically for close to fifteen years now) was already well in place. Throughout the years in my business and in my personal life, I have come to recognize the role that our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs play on our health and that they are intricately connected. I had been trying to work out the things I felt related to this problem both last time and this time (it was financial worry, if you are wondering) but I just couldn't create a breakthrough for myself. I was truly struggling. Last night I just stopped TRYING to "let go" of my stuff, and stopped TRYING to analyze it. Quite frankly, I just didn't have the energy to do it anymore anyway. I was just too sore & too tired. I stood at the side of my bed, took a few nice deep breaths and began to affirm to myself that "all the resources I required were available to me inside at all times" and I just kept repeating it. I climbed into my bed and it DIDN'T HURT to do so! "Okay! NOW we're getting somewhere!", I thought! I just kept breathing deeply and repeating my affirmation as I lay there COMFORTABLY and without pain for the first time in probably a month until I fell asleep. As I awoke to roll over several times last night, I repeated the affirmation until I fell back to sleep each time and GUESS WHAT?!? I had NO pain the entire night and slept wonderfully!!! This morning when I woke up and climbed off my bed (it's over waist high), I did not yelp, or have to do strange yoga moves just to be able to walk from my room but instead just casually strolled out! It was like it had never even been sore! My spine had become tight and sore other places as well as I had made accommodations in my posture while it was painful at the base and even THOSE spots felt loose and open! It has now been all day and I am still pain-free! I am continuing to do my affirmations and will continue as long as necessary, but I am confident that my back has healed! As I cleaned the house today, I could not resist pushing my limits a little (okay - A LOT) and although it may not have been the brightest idea, I had to show myself that all was well with it and it IS indeed! My dogs have not had the privilege of doing that much dancing with me in a long time (don't let them fool you - they LOVE it)! |
